ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability (known as ICLEI) is a global network working with more than 2500 local and regional governments committed to sustainable urban development. Active in 125+ countries, we influence sustainability policy and drive local action for zero emission, nature-based, equitable, resilient and circular development. Our Members and team of experts work together through peer exchange, partnerships and capacity building to create systemic change for urban sustainability.

Federal City of Bonn, Germany
Located along the Rhine River, Bonn is a global center for sustainability and international cooperation, hosting 17 UN agencies and over 170 climate and nature-focused institutions, including the ICLEI World Secretariat. An ICLEI Member since 2000, the city is led by Lord Mayor Katja Dörner, also Chair of ICLEI’s Climate Action and Governance Portfolio. Bonn is recognized as a Global Resilience Hub under the MCR2030 initiative and is known for forward-looking initiatives like Bonn’s path to biodiversity and the participatory Bonn4Future process. With a goal of climate neutrality by 2035 and a strong focus on citizen engagement, Bonn shows how local leadership can shape global climate and resilience solutions.
