Active in 125+ countries, we influence sustainability policy and drive local action for zero emission, nature-based, equitable, resilient and circular development. Our Members and team of experts work together through peer exchange, partnerships and capacity building to create systemic change for urban sustainability.

FEATURED CITY
Gyeonggi-do Province, Republic of Korea
As one of ICLEI’s longest-standing members since 1995, Gyeonggi-do Province has been a pioneer in advancing sustainable development in the Republic of Korea. In 2023, the province was selected as the host local government of ICLEI Korea (2023–2027), reinforcing its role as a regional sustainability hub. Governor Dong-yeon Kim, who also serves on ICLEI’s Global Executive Committee, is spearheading bold initiatives like the Gyeonggi RE100 Vision, aimed at covering 100% of the province’s energy use with renewables. With targets to expand renewable energy to 9 GW by 2026 and cut emissions by 40%, Gyeonggi-do is transforming the climate crisis into an opportunity for innovation and inclusive growth.

Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh, Mayor of Malmö, Sweden | President of ICLEI
Mayor of Malmö since 2013 and the first woman to hold the position, Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh is a leading voice for sustainable urban transformation. Under her leadership, Malmö has become a climate-smart, innovation-driven city, pioneering efforts in renewable energy, inclusive development, and climate-resilient urban planning.
An ICLEI Member since 1998, Malmö was the first city in Sweden to align its entire municipal organization with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Elected President of ICLEI in 2024, Mayor Jammeh brings this bold, equity-centered approach to the global stage. Her commitment to supporting other cities led to the creation of the Malmö Commitment during the ICLEI World Congress 2021–2022, an initiative that puts social equity at the heart of local climate and nature action.
