COP23 in Bonn and the Bonn-Fiji Commitment
Bonn is the host city of the 2017 United Nations Climate Change Conference ("COP23"), an international meeting of political leaders, non-state actors and activists to discuss environmental issues.
COP23 was held at UN Campus in Bonn (Germany) from 6–17 November 2017, presided over by the Prime Minister of Fiji, Frank Bainimarama, marking the first time a small-island developing state assumed the presidency of the negotiations.
ICLEI organizes The Cities & Region Pavilion, a home base for local and regional governments at COP. With a diverse program throughout the full two weeks, the Pavilion offers a space for events, exchanges, meetings and partnership building.
The local and regional leaders meeting at COP23 sing “The Bonn-Fiji Commitment of Local and Regional Leaders to Deliver the Paris Agreement At All Levels”, acknowledging that, with the entry into force of the Paris Agreement in 2016, a new era in global climate action has started, building on the engagement of Parties with all levels of governments worldwide and domestically.
