About

Münster, located in the northwestern German state of North Rhine-Westphalia and in the very heart of Europe, is a city with over 250,000 inhabitants and 160 different nationalities - 50,000 students are enrolled in eight colleges and universities. Münster is a city of science and learning, and is a place where urban culture, municipal diversity and first-class rural recreation intersect and have a mutually enhancing effect. Furthermore, the city's service-based economy is supported largely by the retail trade, with over 2 billion euros of turnover. Notably, Münster is known informally as the German capital for bicycling. For the past several decades, the City has made great efforts to improve its bicycling and public transportation facilities as a means to combat automobile dependence. The efforts now continue to meet the challenge of achieving a more than 50% modal share for bicycling in the next 10-20 years.
