Active in 125+ countries, we influence sustainability policy and drive local action for zero emission, nature-based, equitable, resilient and circular development. Our Members and team of experts work together through peer exchange, partnerships and capacity building to create systemic change for urban sustainability.

FEATURED CITY
Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt
Sharm El-Sheikh has been an ICLEI Member since 2025, the first city in Egypt to join. A regional leader in sustainability and host of COP27 in 2022, the city has advanced its Green Sharm initiative with support from Egypt’s Ministry of Environment, UNDP Egypt, and the Global Environment Facility. It has invested over USD 16.7 million in renewable energy, added 145 kilometers of cycling lanes, launched electric buses, and introduced an integrated waste management system. The city also banned single-use plastic bags in 50 hotels and launched Egypt’s first plastic awareness campaign. The Green Sharm platform highlights these achievements and promotes green tourism. With over 39 green infrastructure projects and USD 19.7 million mobilized, Sharm El-Sheikh is accelerating local climate action.

Nancy Metayer Bowen, Vice Mayor, City of Coral Springs, United States
Firstly elected in 2020, Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen of Coral Springs is an environmental scientist and former member of the Broward County Soil and Water Conservation District. She has led statewide environmental justice efforts and disaster response initiatives, and she presented her city’s efforts at the ICLEI World Congress 2024 in São Paulo, Brazil, followed by her engagement in Bonn, Germany at the SB62 UN Climate Talks and the Daring Cities 2025 Bonn Dialogues. There, she also highlighted Coral Springs’ Race to Zero commitment and use of ClearPath for emissions tracking. Metayer Bowen serves on the ICLEI USA Board of Directors and is an active voice for local climate leadership.
