What we did
The Just Energy Transition (JET) dialogue has recognized the need for accelerating renewable energy (RE) to improve the resilience of our energy systems while addressing the climate crisis caused by GHG emissions where the energy sector contributes significantly. Despite improvements in the JET dialogue and intervention, limited understanding of some stakeholders and inadequate participation of marginalized communities persists. The discussions on JET were observed to have been dominated by climate and environmental NGOs and select partners. Hence, the opportunity for a more inclusive dialogue on JET solutions based on local context is missed out. If not addressed, this could create a cycle of exclusion of communities and stakeholders that can contribute to accelerating JET. As part of its JET program, Oxfam Pilipinas partnered with ICLEI SEAS to promote a democratized system on integrating RE in plans, programs, and budgets with the Provincial Government of Eastern Samar and the LGUs of Dolores and Borongan.
