What we did
Korean Government has established latest 5th NBSAP(National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan) aligning with newly selected GBF at the CBD COP15. In acknowledgement of the importance of subnational actors, Korean Ministry of Environment has set research project focusing on planning and implementation of LBSAPs(Local Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans). Bid by KO, KO has been conducting the research project to 1) establish the guideline for Korean local governments on establishing and implementing LBSAPs, 2) reinforce local networks on implementation, monitoring and knowledge sharing regarding the biodiversity and ecosystem-related policy issues, and 3) hold informative and interactive forum on LBSAPs and related policy themes.

What we achieved
Granted by the National Institute of Biological Research, KO has been conducting research and producing research report, consists of 6 parts: 1) International and national policy trends on LBSAPs, 2) Analysis and limitation of formerly established LBSAPs in Korea, 3) Guideline for the local government officials on establishing and implementing LBSAPs, 4) Reinforcing civil and local community participation, including the local governance, citizen science and CEPA, 5) Supporting pilot cities that are newly establishing LBSAPs, and 6) Operation of local network of LBSAPs and network forums.
Guideline is built upon the ICLEI resources on the guidelines of BSAPs published by ICLEI CBC, and also aligns with the CitiesWithNature Action Platform framework.
