What we did
1. This activity is needed to assess greenhouse gas reduction potentials in key areas of climate-oriented urban development, quantify these potentials, and identify synergies with climate adaptation strategies. The macro issue being addressed is the need for effective urban development strategies to mitigate climate change and adapt to its impacts.
2. Local and regional governments are directly impacted by this activity as it provides them with insights into the greenhouse gas reduction potential within their urban areas and offers recommendations for action. It helps them understand how to integrate climate-oriented urban development strategies into their planning processes.
3. Local and regional governments are participating in the research project to assess greenhouse gas reduction potentials in various fields of urban development. They are contributing to the development of recommendations for action based on the findings of the project.

What we achieved
1. ICLEI is helping to assess greenhouse gas reduction potentials in climate-oriented urban development, both qualitatively and quantitatively. It is involved in coordinating and managing the project and contributing to the development of recommendations for action.
2. ICLEI is involved in five technical work packages focused on preparing and sharpening the research subject, developing an approach to determining greenhouse gas potentials, analyzing trade-offs and city-hinterland relations, and deriving conclusions and recommendations. It employs a structured methodology to assess and quantify greenhouse gas reduction potentials in urban development.
3. This activity will positively impact the identified problem by providing local and regional governments with valuable insights into greenhouse gas reduction potentials in urban development. It will help them make informed decisions and develop effective strategies to mitigate climate change and adapt to its impacts, ultimately contributing to more sustainable and resilient cities.
