What we did
The City of Madison is undertaking efforts to ensure a clean energy future in response to climate change. Alongside Dane County, the City is experiencing climate effects such as additional heat days, hot nights, more frequent and severe extreme storms, and more heavy rainfall events. Madison intends to update its community-wide and municipal greenhouse gas inventories for the first time since 2014, enabling it to address emissions from its own buildings and fleet, and to engage the broader community in climate action efforts.

What we achieved
ICLEI is providing the City of Madison with updated community-wide and local government operations inventories for 2018 and 2022, as well as a business-as-usual forecast to 2030. ICLEI is providing the City with data request forms to ease the burden of data collection on the community, and is utilizing the ClearPath Climate Planner tool to calculate the city’s community and municipal emissions. Providing Madison with updated inventories and a 2030 forecast will enable the City to monitor how emissions have changed since 2014, and to track their progress as they approach their 2030 and 2050 targets.
