What we are doing
The Philippines faces the urgent challenge of transitioning to sustainable and renewable energy sources to align with the global scientific consensus established by the IPCC, which calls for a peak in fossil fuel use by 2025, and the COP28 commitment to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030 in support of the Paris Agreement. However, achieving this transition requires addressing barriers to fair and effective energy governance, ensuring that energy systems are not only sustainable but also equitable and inclusive. This problem is compounded by existing dependencies on fossil fuels, limited infrastructure for renewables, and the need for democratized governance model that empowers local communities and stakeholders in energy decision-making processes. Solving this challenge is essential for the Philippines to meet its climate commitments and foster a resilient, low carbon future.
