National Policy Recommendations for Kenya

Kenya leads in renewable energy (RE) generation, with over 84% of electricity sourced from RE, primarily geothermal. However, challenges persist in expanding energy access and reducing emissions, especially in transport and cooking sectors. The 100% Renewables Cities and Regions Roadmap supports Kisumu, Nakuru, and Mombasa in advancing local RE goals through policy alignment, capacity building, and technology adoption. Key recommendations include integrating County Energy Plans into national strategies, enhancing clean cooking policies, and updating transport regulations to support e-mobility. These steps will accelerate Kenya’s pathway to 100% RE and sustainable energy practices.
