
In April 2020, Changwon launched emergency measures to protect toads at Ramsar Ecological Park, recognizing them as indicator species of wetland health. The city continues systematic research and conservation efforts in collaboration with civic groups, academia, and corporations to restore urban ecosystems. Changwon promotes biodiversity conservation through public-private partnerships, education, and active engagement, serving as a model for sustainable urban development. Aligned with the 2050 Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), the city integrates nature-based solutions into policies to secure habitats, improve water quality, and address climate and disaster challenges. Through multi-stakeholder cooperation, Changwon applies ecosystem-oriented solutions to urban planning, reinforcing its role as a leader in biodiversity-friendly city governance.
