What we are doing
Even though the UN calls on not only nations but also local governments to publish reports documenting their efforts and accomplishments along the journey toward achieving SDGs, known as VLR, only 4 korean local governments, including Suwon-si, Dangjin-si, Seodaemun-gu and Shinan-gun, have written VLRs due to shortage of manpower, lack of experience, and etc. Therefore, KO has been working on assisting Korean local governments to write local reports in line with the international community’s effort and share them with the global community via a global online platform.

How we are tracking
Hwaseong VLR of Sustainable Development in 2024 consists of 104 pages filled with diverse pictures helping understanding the status of Hwaseong's SD policies.
Hwaseong has developed and implemented “Hwaseong Sustainable Development Goals(HS-SDGs), consisting of 4 strategies and 17 goals based on its vision “Hwaseong, a city where everyone can enjoy a life of equality in harmony with nature” under public-private governance.

What we are achieving
KO supported Hwaseong-si to publish the VLR of Sustainable Development in 2024. Hwaseong-si has made a draft in Korean, referring to GuideON published by KO in 2022, and KO worked on the process of translating contents into English and designing the entire report afterwards. KO plans to contact UN-Habitat, Local 2030 and IGES to publish it on their online platforms to share Hwaseong’s efforts and achievements so that it could serve as an exemplary case to raise global citizens’ awareness and participation in SD at a local level.
