The Youth and Sustainability team at ICLEI South Asia has launched the Youth for Climate Hackathon. Designed to bring together young minds to develop innovative, scalable, and impactful solutions to the climate crisis, the hackathon is guided by the COP30 Agenda and the ICLEI Pathways, ensuring that creative ideas can evolve into actionable, context-specific projects for the South Asia region.
Under the theme “Adaptation to Climate Change | Evidence-based Innovative Solutions for South Asian Cities,” the hackathon kicked off on 25 April 2025 for young adults aged 18 to 25 from South Asia and will run through October.
Participants will select a city and propose context-specific, innovative solutions that address its real-time challenges, tailored to local needs and priorities.
The initiative has garnered 335 registrations from youth across Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, and Nepal, expanding the network of the program to over 600 young climate leaders. Currently, the program has 135 participants and has received 54 submissions for climate solutions.
Regional partners in the youth and sustainability space are supporting the dissemination of information and conducting webinars on climate and sustainability.
As a knowledge partner, Youth Ki Awaaz, India’s largest citizen media platform, hosted the first webinar titled “Writing on Climate: How Every Story is a Climate Story” under the Knowledge Webinar Series on 3 August 2025. Discussions focused on empowering the youth to become effective climate storytellers by equipping them with the writing tools and strategies needed to amplify their voices, share local climate realities, and drive meaningful action through compelling narratives.
