Data-driven decision-making is a crucial step in planning, implementing, and monitoring climate change mitigation initiatives. The Data-Driven Climate Action project provides valuable data to assist local and regional governments in the decision-making process regarding climate action. By collecting and assessing data related to climate change mitigation efforts, cities can communicate lessons learned and help support decision-making and climate action planning.

What we are achieving
ICLEI World secretariat is collecting, assessing, and communicating lessons learned by the three ICLEI Regional Secretariats (South America, Mexico and Caribbean, and Europe) that are participating in the Action Fund. It also showcased good practices of 2 cities successfully using data to inform climate action which did not participated in the Action Fund (Belo Horizonte, Brazil and Boulder, US).
The Action Fund is an initiative led by ICLEI with support from Google.org, to boost environmental projects in selected cities in Europe, Mexico, and South America. The grant aims at empowering civil society organizations, academic institutions, and non-profit research institutes, leading data-driven climate action efforts to reduce citywide emissions.
The activities funded by this project can be listed as:
- 4 Case studies on the importance for data to drive climate action
- A solution in effective local stakeholders engagement climate and energy action
- Support 5-6 Projects to enter into the TAP Pipeline
- 3 Case studies focusing on stakeholders engagement
- Communicate key developments and final results
