The Academic Immersion program aims to promote the approximation of local governments with higher education institutions for the realization of case studies related to local challenges. The program allows the insertion of young university students in projects and programs developed by the public administration, encouraging research and academic production on issues of interest to local governments. It offers young people practical experiences related to the sustainability agenda.

What we achieved
The program contributes to solving public administration challenges with case studies and scientific methodology. In 2019, ICLEI South America organized four laboratories dedicated to investigating the environmental and climatic challenges faced by Fortaleza (CE) and the mining towns of Betim, Brumadinho and Mariana. Young researchers from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais (PUC-Minas), University of Fortaleza (Unifor), University of Köln, Germany, and SKEMA Business School, a French institution with a branch in Minas Gerais, were involved.
