What we did
The rationale for the project is as follows:
-Limited skills and technical resources: Start-ups and SMEs needs to be upskilled in running sustainable businesses with a life-cycle perspective.
-Limited understanding of the scope of Circular Economy (CE) opportunities: Most businesses and cities focus on waste management, while circularity embraces wider opportunities
-Need for CE to engage social justice imperatives: Job creation; equitable distribution and access (location and affordability) to resources are vital and need to be prioritised
-Enabling environment for growing small scale CE businesses: Access to networks and resources, unavailability of small grants, constraint relating to regulatory environment

What we achieved
ACE Africa aims to unlock the potential of the circular economy in Southern Africa by supporting the growth of circular businesses with a focus on the intersecting areas of food, health and climate change.
This is done through three broad activities:
-Incubating and upskilling start-up companies, entrepreneurs and small businesses with a focus on CE
-Providing a platform for exposure to, and interaction with, mature CE businesses, funders and government officers
-Providing guidance to local governments on how to improve or support innovative businesses that enhance circular development
