What we are doing
Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and its subsequent decisions indicates gender-responsive approach and strategy to achieve equal and just use of biodiversity and benefit-sharing, which is also a core goal of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). As the Gender Plan of Action (from CBD/COP/DEC/15/11) declares, biodiversity is a gender issue which affects the resource accessibility, land and labour rights, exposure to the environmental harms/goods, and participation in policymaking process of women, girls and sexual minorities. Recalling that the biodiversity- and ecosystem-related projects are location-specific, it is important that the local governments should address and maintain equitable approach to the biodiversity projects. Through this activity, especially centered for Goyang City, Korean local governments and related stakeholders will be able to learn how gender is mainstreamed into the biodiveristy agenda and what tools can be used to analyse, assess, and monitor gender disaggregated data and gender-responsive biodiversity project implementation.

What we are achieving
The project consists of three parts:
1. Generation of literature review and translated publication of CBD Gender Plan of Action and its explanation
2. Localisation and optimisation of GBF gender indices to local and urban scales, and test-run of the indices
3. Publishing final report on gender-responsive biodiversity action in urban sector
By conducting desktop research and collaborative and participatory research with environmental agencies in Goyang and Korea, ICLEI KO aims to build foundation of gender mainstreaming in biodiversity-related fields in Korea, especially for the local governments who wishes to incorporate inclusiveness in their nature plans and policies.
Project outcomes will be compiled in the CitiesWithNature Tools and Resources.
