What we are doing
The rapid change of our climate and the unprecedented challenges for humanity have made it urgent to adopt a more sustainable and circular development model. To accelerate the transition, many cities, regions and other promoters in Europe are already developing and applying circular economy projects. However, due to the perceived risks involved, such projects often struggle to secure the necessary investments, hindering their implementation.
To address this challenge, a new initiative called CircularInvest has been launched under the Circular Cities and Region Initiative (CCRI) to bridge the gap between circular economy project development and implementation by helping circular project beneficiaries become investment-ready and access financial resources.

How we are tracking
One-to-one support services to 10-15 exemplary CE investment projects of the investment value of +20M€, covering different European countries and several sectors.
Improvement of CE project promoters´ access funding. As a result of the CircularInvest Techincal Assistance, we expect to enable the funding of local and regional projects of the value of at least €20M.

What we are achieving
CircularInvest will provide project development assistance (PDA) to selected circular economy project promoters from across Europe with the aim to develop significant circular economy projects at the local and regional scales, and close investments.
CircularInvest will provide free project development assistance to the most promising European circular economy ideas, offering a variety of customised services based on their needs, including:
- Advancing circulari solutions
- Business planning
- Fundraising
- Legal and regulation
The lessons learnt from CircularInvest’s experience will prepare the pathway for future replication through a Step-by-Step Guide to de-risk future circular economy projects; policy recommendations; a Circular Investor guide to increase investors’ trust and a knowledge exchange platform for project promoters. ICLEI Europe contributes to the delivery of services, in particular those related to the assessment of circularity.
