What we are doing
ICLEI Oceania has established a team of volunteers including students and professionals from sustainability consulting and local government. The Climate Communicators Program facilitates deep dives into all aspects of what it takes to be effective, memorable and compelling communicators on climate and sustainability. Sharing evidence-based knowledge in credible and persuasive ways is paramount to the health of a mindful and engaged society, and is a prerequisite for sustainable development at all levels of government. Through capacity building, online resources and social networking events in partnership with other sustainability groups in Melbourne, Australia, ICLEI Oceania is assisting students and professionals to turn their sustainability research into practice using the power of language and stories. Our activities include direction consultations with students, academics, sustainability professionals and developing a podcast Talking In This Climate available from November 2020.

What we are achieving
ICLEI Oceania has posted a 'science communications toolkit' on the website, a collation of useful resources for sustainability students. Through the Young Writers Network students and graduates are empowered to become engaging communicators. Sharing evidence-based knowledge in credible and persuasive ways is paramount to the health of a mindful and engaged society, and is a prerequisite for sustainable development policies at all levels of government, especially local and regional governments, who interface most closely with communities. Through capacity building, and offering online resources and social networking events in partnership with other sustainability organisations in Melbourne, Australia, ICLEI is assisting academic researchers in translating their sustainability research into practice. ICLEI is assisting researchers and students in translating their sustainability research into practice. From April 2020 the Climate Communicators Program has been working on a podcast called Talking In This Climate, in partnership with local podcasting network the Climactic Collective. The podcast will be released on all major platforms in November 2020 and explores all aspects of climate change communications, from climate language, metaphor, emotions, indigenous perspectives and more.
