What we are doing
1. Europe’s objective is to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, an economy with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, through the deep decarbonisation of all sectors.
2. More than 220 million building units were built before 2001 (85% of building stock) with low or no energy standard criteria and most of them will still be standing in 2050. The oldest, non-renovated buildings are usually less energy efficient, and require more energy to keep indoor environmental conditions. In addition, they are often occupied by lower income families which face problems to pay energy bills, which means that the indoor hygro-thermal conditions are far from the comfort range, leading to health problems.
3. Using industrialized and modular systems, digital tools to follow and control the process and new materials, renewable technologies, and systems. Enhanced data collection and use in design, planning and implementation. Efficient design and renovation process accounting for the needs and necessary conditions of the location and the inhabitants, driving down the costs. Smart management of energy generated at dwelling and building level through digital twins.

How we are tracking
An elderly residence in Boën-sur-Lignon will be renovated using the AEGIR solution and great emphasis is put on the fact that AEGIR should, among other benefits, ensure residents’ comfort and continuity during the renovation process.

What we are achieving
1. ICLEI Europe leads activities related to replicating AEGIR solutions at the subnational and European Level - including tasks such as capacity building and replication support, identifying and creating / testing financial schemata and tools and proffering recommendations to optimise local and European regulatory frameworks.
2. This solution will achieve a low-energy manufacturing process with a low carbon footprint. It will use different digital technologies (BIM, augmented reality, digital twins, etc.) to improve building design, refurbishing, management, and operation. Design multifunctional (passive & active) scalable building energy renovation envelope packages to answer to a different range of needs, which integrates plug & play industrialized highly insulating envelope modules with very low embodied energy, built-in renewable energy generation systems, and highly efficient ventilation systems designed to ensure user comfort and indoor air quality. Develop and implement an ecosystem of digital services in a common data environment that enables an efficient design of the AEGIR renovation packages for different building typologies, an efficient building renovation execution, and building operation and maintenance.
3. Demonstrate AEGIR technical solution through its implementation and monitoring in four different building typologies (residential, office, and educational) located in different climatic zones.
