What we are doing
The UNFCCC COP is the leading global platform for advancing climate strategies and fostering collaboration. COP30 in Belém, Brazil, focuses on the Amazon’s role in biodiversity and carbon storage, highlighting the 2035 NDCs, climate finance, and Amazon preservation.
The LGMA Constituency, recognized by the UNFCCC, represents local governments in global climate processes, advocating for multilevel governance and climate solutions. ICLEI, as the LGMA focal point, coordinates local government contributions and fosters innovation in climate action.
East Asian local governments, key actors under the Paris Agreement, contribute innovative urban solutions and climate actions. The Amazon region plays a vital role in global climate mitigation through its ecological contributions. The LGMA Pavilion will connect East Asia’s urban expertise with the Amazon’s ecological strengths, fostering collaborations for climate resilience and biodiversity.
ICLEI East Asia will organize a side event showcasing East Asian local governments’ climate and biodiversity actions. This event will promote cross-regional dialogue, partnerships, and solutions for sustainable urban development and biodiversity preservation, advancing global climate goals.

How we are tracking
Showcase sustainability initiatives from East Asian cities, includingSeoul, and their roles in global climate strategies and contributions to the revised NDC, by inviting at least 5 East Asian cities in COP30 thematic/pavilion events and engaging at least 5 East Asian representatives as speakers or panelists in thematic sessions.
Facilitate an exchange of experiences between East Asian,Amazonian and other local governments, fostering synergies and scalable solutions for global impact, by organizing 4 bilateral meetings or networking events fostering the exchange between East Asian and global cities/institutions.
Highlight how East Asia’s local government actions align with global frameworks like the UNFCCC and CBD, emphasizing their role in shaping and implementing the revised NDC, by organizing an thematic session showcasing East Asia’s contributions to global sustainability goals.
