What we did
This project was created to help US local governments with reporting their inventory, mitigation targets, climate action plan, vulnerability assessments and adaptation plan and goals. This intended to help report to the Global Covenant of Mayors properly. It was split into 4 parts: 1) identify NGOs in the US that help local governments and support them in climate action and reporting to GCoM 2) host a nation-wide webinar for any local US government to join and be trained on reporting to the CDP-ICLEI reporting platform in GCoM compliance 3) provide assistance with the reporting (if a city submitted their CAP and it came back non-compliant we would help to make it compliant) 4) the WS tested a tool that can help them review climate action plans and make sure they are aligned with the Paris Agreement. We took this prototype tool and used it to assess a respective city’s CAP and if it was compliant with the Paris Agreement.

What we achieved
ICLEI provides technical assistance to these communities when doing their inventories and making sure they have the resources they need. We hosted a webinar to run communities through the way to report to GCoM. If a community reaches out and needs 1-1 assistance, ICLEI would provide. A city reports their emissions through the CDP-ICLEI platform, GCoM would review and send feedback if anything was wrong. ICLEI would receive this feedback and reach out to the community to follow-up on why the plan was not compliant. This is to make sure communities are reporting correctly and taking the necessary steps to address their GHG emissions. Through the HelpDesk, ICLEI would make sure cities have assistance with their inventory, planning, and implementation if needed.
