Cities need better access to data and easier ways to use this data. Google Environmental Insights Explorer (EIE) provided a platform to serve as a primary data source for many local and regional governments. As with any new data source, especially one provided by a market newcomer, many jurisdictions were initially skeptical about EIE use. By working with ICLEI USA, Google EIE hoped local and regional governments would gain confidence in the data and integration gradually.

What we achieved
This partnership allowed ICLEI USA to access Google EIE data and provide technical support for our members integrated Google EIE data into their climate data analyses, primarily ClearPath GHG inventories. Local and regional governments improved throughout the year with a number of opportunities identified for future adoption, new data sets, and features. The collective goal was to “promote the development and implementation of climate policies or projects as well as tracking progress of climate action in the United States.
