What we did
The Framework Act on Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth, enacted in September 2021, emphasizes the roles and responsibilities of local governments in achieving carbon neutrality. The Act mandates that local governments carry out policies related to energy transition, greenhouse gas reduction, and climate change adaptation and response. These policies must be tailored to each local government's economic, social, and environmental characteristics. ICLEI Korea provides opportunities for member cities to participate in global discussions, engage with international standards, and stay informed on the latest climate action trends.

What we achieved
ICLEI Korea provides technical support to local governments, enabling their active participation in the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP). This includes engaging them in the Local Governments and Municipal Authorities (LGMA) platform, allowing them to have a voice in global climate negotiations. Additionally, ICLEI Korea promotes best practices from member cities to the international community, facilitates networking between Korean cities and other cities, and helps local governments gain insights from the experiences of other cities to improve the effectiveness of climate policy implementation.
