		What we are achieving
KO has co-hosted Korea Festival of Sustainable Development with Local Sustainability Alliance of Korea in Siheung-si in October, 2024. As an organizing committee, KO has contributed to the entire event from conceptualizing the festival to conducting a capacity building workshop for officials and a round table for local council members, focusing on the role of local governments in SD.
Challenges: In spite of the enactment of the Framework Act on Sustainable Development in 2022, the present national government has been inactive in implementing SD. Due to the insufficient support from the government to the Local Sustainability Alliance of Korea(LSAK) secretariat, it is expected to be difficult for former Local Agenda 21(LA21) and current Local Commission on Sustainable Development(LCSD) to promote local actions in 2025. ICLEI KO sees the necessity for creating and developing a new type of initiative towards SD as well as highlighting multilevel action.
