What we did
The NBCities integrate the biodiversity conservation and climate action agendas, by strengthening local governments’ institutional and technical capacity, developing studies and planning documents, engaging stakeholders in distinct sectors, national and international cooperation, and supporting the development of local policies.
What we achieved
The project NBCities seeks to promote biodiversity conservation and climate action agendas in local policies in the city of Belém, located in the Amazon Rainforest and one of the most important capital cities of Brazil, nominated to host the world’s Climate Conference, COP30 in 2025.
NBCities will align Belém with climate and biodiversity compliance standards by leveraging innovative and participatory tools, mapping financing mechanisms, and establishing a clear implementation pathway that complements existing initiatives. The completion of the Ecosystem Services Diagnosis, in parallel with the Climate Risk and Vulnerability Analysis.
During the first semester of 2024, Belém showcased the project activities at ICLEI National Meeting in the city, as well as during the ICLEI World Congress in São Paulo.
Currently, the project is in its final semester. It's been carrying out the city-to-city cooperation between Belém, Bucaramanga (Colombia) and Área Metropolitana de Bucaramanga (Colombia) to discuss urban panification as well as the bankable project mentoring. The Ecosystem Services Diagnosis and the Climate Risk and Vulnerability Analysis is in its final revision.
