How we are tracking

While coal remains a primary fuel in the European energy mix, the transition to cleaner forms of energy and innovative technologies, such as carbon capture and storage, is imperative to meet the EU’s commitment to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 55% by 2030 and to become the world’s first climate-neutral bloc by 2050.

What we are achieving

1. ICLEI is supporting throughh technical assistance and contribution to the preparation of new tool kits. 2. ICLEI is supporting START technical assistance in selected regions, developing local communication plans, contributing to the preparation of new toolkits, leading communications activities, contributing to the development of the international strategy, and preparing meetings with international partners. ICLEI is also identifying case studies and good practices at EU and international levels. 3. These activities will provide essential support, information, and tools for coal, peat, and oil shale regions in transition, facilitating their shift towards more sustainable energy sources and promoting the EU's just transition experience both locally and internationally.
