What we did
Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), a flagship program of the Government of India (GoI), aims to ensure clean and hygienic cities and efficient waste management across 4041 statutory towns in India. The Swachh Bharat Mission brought the municipal solid waste management sector to the forefront of governance of the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). However, limited human and financial resources remains a major constraint in being able to implement successful projects. Therefore, there is an immediate need to create awareness among ULBs regarding the objectives of SBM along with revised rules, enabling policies and guidelines. To this end, Solid Waste Management Exposure Workshops will be offered for the officials of 1600 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) Phase III (2018 – 2019). The workshops will strengthen institutional capacities at ULBs towards collection, treatment, disposal and efficient management of various types of waste, promote 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) initiatives, and facilitate integrated efforts towards improving the health of the urban environment.
