Sterling Heights instituted the Sterling Heights Sustainability Commission in the spring of 2020 to provide guidance and suggestions to city leadership regarding sustainability objectives, strategies, and initiatives. As part of its responsibilities, the commission focuses on mitigating local greenhouse gas emissions, though the City does not have either a community-wide (CW) or local government operations (LGO) emissions inventory. To address this, the City of Sterling Heights contracted ICLEI to complete both for the year 2022.

What we achieved
ICLEI is producing both a 2022 community-wide and local government operations greenhouse gas emissions inventory. ICLEI utilized its ClearPath software to accomplish these tasks, and collaborated with Sterling Heights to identify and request information from data providers. With completion of both inventories, Sterling Heights now has inventories to inform its future mitigation objectives, strategies, and initiatives.
