What we are doing
Numerous organizations and networks are working to support local and regional governments to take transformative action in agrifood systems in the realms of production, health and nutrition, environment and livelihoods. The 2023 State of Food and Nutrition Insecurity highlighted how urbanization is transforming agrifood systems and how cities and subnational governments are potentially becoming more powerful in their potential to make change. What we are achieving
FAO plans to co-host with ICLEI the Urban Agrifood Systems Global Workshop, taking place from 9 - 11 September 2024 at the FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy. The purpose of the workshop is to gather a community of stakeholders and engage in more collaborative problem-solving and collective action to support governments at all levels to explore how the urban agrifood systems community can work better together for collective impact. This interactive workshop will engage participants in the co-development of a comprehensive five-year roadmap on how to support national and local governments and associated partners to achieve transformative action in agrifood systems at scale and the role different actors can play in achieving that as a collective.
ICLEI will support the coordination of the workshop by organizing, facilitating and managing the logistics of an in-person event with around 100-125 participants and will produce a multi-level roadmap as an outcome document of the workshop, in collaboration with FAO.
