URBANA – Urban Arena for sustainable and equitable solutions

What we did

UrbanA takes up the challenge of synthesizing and brokering the knowledge and experience generated in EU-funded projects, many of which have identified interventions that address grand societal challenges, of which urban inequalities and social exclusion across different contexts. In this way, UrbanA will support city-makers – including researchers, policymakers and practitioners – in transforming European cities into inclusive and sustainable urban and peri-urban environments. UrbanA will do so through a transdisciplinary Urban Arena for Sustainable and Equitable Solutions. By co-creatively mapping urban sustainability interventions, assessing their potential to improve urban social equity and inclusion and identifying potential avenues and agents by which such interventions could be transferred to more widespread governance contexts, UrbanA will develop actionable and actor specific solutions, which will be disseminated to key local and European actors.

What we achieved

ICLEI Europe is lead of the project and thus coordinates it. ICLEI Europe is also responsible for the distilling solutions. This includes following aspects: To distill a final palette of innovative specific recommendations for sustainable and inclusive urban areas from the outputs of WPs 3-5, including policy decisions, urban planning tools, financing mechanisms, and procedural practices with a variety of city-makers, including historically marginalized groups and stakeholders in the city. To distill policy- and practice-relevant recommendations for target audiences at multiple governance levels and targeting specific policy frameworks (e.g. EU Urban Agenda, SDGs, etc.) To disseminate innovative solutions and recommendations in multiple formats to UrbanA’s target audiences and beyond using strategic partners’ communication channels
