Through the Ontario Resource Centre for Climate Adaptation, led by ICLEI Canada, the City of St. Catharines developed a Heat Risk and Vulnerability Mapping initiative to help communities build resilience to extreme heat. By combining research, collaboration, and equity-focused planning, the project identified neighbourhoods and populations most at risk from extreme heat to better guide adaptation actions, infrastructure investments, and community supports. The initiative also developed guiding principles and data considerations that can support other municipalities working to build healthier, more climate-resilient communities in the face of rising temperatures.
