The Gender and Road Safety Framework

This TRANS-SAFE publication, developed by the ICLEI World Secretariat, explores why road safety is a gendered issue and provides practical guidance for integrating gender analysis across the five pillars of the Safe System approach, endorsed by the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021–2030. The framework applies a gender lens across these pillars, through three levels of gender integration defined by UN Women. It features practical case studies and examples relevant to Africa and the Global South, alongside recommendations for cities and other key stakeholders to advance more equitable road safety policies.
