About

The Hanseatic City of Hamburg is Germany's second largest city and home to a dense population of 1.8 million residents, and 4.3 mio inhabitants throughout its greater region. The city-state is an international media, culture and industrial hub, infamous for its bustling port along the River Elbe. The City of Hamburg has a proven track record of committing to its sustainability challenges through innovative action, which is why the City won the title of European Green Capital 2011. Long-term climate strategies, such as the expansion of a renewable energy mix, modernization of buildings, increase in green areas, eco-mobility and the clustering of private-public partnerships are ensuring Hamburg reaches its goal of a 40% CO2 reduction by 2020, 80% by 2050.
