Under the theme “Powering collective action to respond to the climate emergency,” Daring Cities 2024, co-convened by ICLEI and the Federal City of Bonn, Germany, celebrated its fifth edition as a pivotal platform for local and regional leaders championing multilevel and collective climate action.
The event explored a holistic and integrated approach to tackling the climate emergency. Through dynamic in-person and online dialogues, workshops, and roundtables, participants bridged critical gaps between national and subnational efforts, sparking innovation and collaboration at every level.
Highlights include hosting the first CHAMP Endorsers Roundtable, kickstarting a global movement where national local government associations from Germany, Brazil, and the USA pledged their support for CHAMP. We also spotlighted the Town Hall COPs initiative as an innovative mechanism linking local climate emergency action to national and global efforts.
Daring Cities 2024 produced a comprehensive set of key findings that guided our inputs at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan:
1. Cities and regions have the power -and the success stories- to demand bold multilevel partnerships and governance for more ambitious climate action
2. Cities and regions must embrace a bottom-up approach to create truly inclusive urban spaces for all
3. Cities and regions are implementing holistic and integrated solutions to tackle the climate emergency
