Under the theme “Time to Be Accountable: Showcasing Achievements, Driving Transformation,” the 8th edition of the Transport and Climate Change Week 2025 will assess progress in the transition to net-zero transport and identify key steps moving forward.
Running from 22 to 26 September in Berlin, Germany, the Week will reflect on a decade of the Paris Agreement, with global experts and decision-makers gathering in person to share knowledge and networking through peer-to-peer exchanges and specialized workshops.
Notably, Thursday, 25 September, marks the Symposium day, aiming to establish a clear and measurable call to action for the next decade, highlighting the importance of having transport targets for 2035. At 14:00 CEST, ICLEI will host the side event, “Moving together: Active Mobility and the Technological Shifts. How to Create People-Centered Cities From the Streets to the Screens?”
“Mobility is at a turning point: Cities are reclaiming space for walking, cycling, and public transport, while technology is transforming how trips are planned, paid for, and experienced. Together, these shifts offer a rare chance to build cities where sustainable and people-centered mobility converge,” says Tu My Tran, ICLEI Head of Sustainable Mobility, who will moderate the session and showcase ICLEI’s work supporting local and regional governments in creating sustainable, people-centred mobility systems that are safe, accessible, and zero-emission.
Asian cities are at the forefront of these paradigm shifts due to the growing population and the fast advancement in digitalization. Invited speakers include Asian public authorities and policy experts reflecting on how to design cities where technology and active mobility reinforce each other. Among them are:
- Franco Anthony Agudo, Assistant Head, Planning and Development Department at Iloilo City Government, Philippines
- Prapawadee Wachiraput, Statistician, Professional Level, Policy and Planning Division at the Traffic and Transportation Department, Bangkok, Thailand
- Marc Hasselwander, Research Associate and Lecturer at the Technical University of Berlin.
Organized by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Transport Climate Change Week serves as a unique platform for advancing the global transformation of transport systems in response to the climate emergency. Since 2017, it has positioned itself as a key event for dialogue, cooperation, and exchange between developing countries and growing economies.
If you are attending the event in person, check the full program here and join ICLEI on 25 September at 14:00 CEST.
