ICLEI will host the Urban Risk Assessment (URA) conclusion workshop in Mexico City, an important milestone in the UIIF 7-Stage Roadmap. The workshop will bring together technical teams from the ICLEI World Secretariat, ICLEI South America Secretariat, and ICLEI Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, alongside the ten participating UIIF-1 cities, risk modellers, insurance industry representatives, and national and local authorities to advance alternative disaster risk financing solutions.
Since kicking off the URAs last year, the UIIF-1 cities have now identified the key hazards threatening critical infrastructure and the affected poor and vulnerable populations. In line with the 7-Stage Roadmap, they have reached the point where they will receive a comprehensive financing guide – including an insurance solution under Stage 4 – before progressing into the development and eventual placement of these solutions through local insurance markets.
While the full event runs from 2–5 December, several sessions will be open to external participants and prospective UIIF-2 cities (for the second phase of the project) online. External participants are warmly invited to join the live-streamed sessions on Day 1, Day 2 and Day 4, all of which will offer simultaneous interpretation in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and opportunities for interaction.
Over four days, the workshop will review hazard modelling, loss quantification, risk management roadmaps, disaster response assessments, and next steps in shaping robust risk-financing mechanisms. The final day will conclude with a collective reflection on lessons learned and shared priorities as cities move toward implementation.
