ICLEI Colombia will provide technical and administrative support to Bogotá, Cali La Estrella and Medellín, as part of the global expansion of Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Fund to 300 new cities worldwide.
ICLEI Colombia was designated as the organization responsible for providing technical and administrative support for the implementation of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund in four selected cities in the country: Bogotá, Cali, La Estrella and Medellín.
The Fund provides funding and technical capacity to support local governments in mobilizing young residents between the ages of 15 and 24 to design and implement solutions aligned with each city’s priorities. The process will be carried out under the direct leadership of the local governments, which will lead the implementation of the Fund and strengthen the role of young people as leaders of climate action in their communities.
The announcement comes as part of the global expansion of the Youth Climate Action Fund to 300 new municipalities worldwide, tripling the program’s reach since its launch in 2024.
The role of ICLEI Colombia
In Bogotá, Cali, La Estrella and Medellín, ICLEI Colombia will support these local governments at every stage of the process, from the design and launch of the innovation calls to the selection of proposals and monitoring of the winning projects.
This support seeks to ensure that the local implementation of the Fund meets the technical and administrative standards defined by Bloomberg Philanthropies and that young people in the four cities have the support they need to lead their initiatives throughout the process.
Through the Youth Climate Action Fund, local governments launch calls inviting young people to submit their ideas. The strongest proposals are selected to receive funding and technical assistance from Bloomberg Philanthropies. Each local government then designates staff to support implementation, helping young people deliver their projects, including creating public spaces, strengthening infrastructure, mitigating disaster risks and building resilience.
With Bogotá, Cali, La Estrella and Medellín among the selected cities, and ICLEI Colombia serving as a technical and administrative partner in the process, Colombia is positioning itself as a regional reference point in this new phase of the program, reaffirming the commitment of its local governments to youth-led climate action.
