Authors: Laura Valente de Macedo, Rodrigo A. Bellezoni, Jose A. Puppim de Oliveira, Pourya Salehi, Paul Currie, Amy Jones
The Nexus Implementation Guidebook for Cities is a tool for public managers, leaders and concerned citizens to help identify and adopt green blue infrastructure (GBI) innovations to improve the food-water-energy nexus in their community. Divided into five sections describing the planning cycle, the guidebook enables readers to understand how to address social and environmental challenges through the nexus approach; identify a community’s infrastructure problem(s), search for innovative nature-based solutions such as green and blue infrastructure, understand what is needed to address the challenges, gather ideas to assemble a team, develop and implement a plan, and understand what is required to secure the success of the undertaking.
This guidebook is the culmination of extensive research undertaken by scientists, researchers and practitioners for the IFWEN (Understanding Innovative Initiatives for Governing Food, Water and Energy Nexus in Cities) project. Grounded in academic theory as well as case study examples, the guidebook presents robust, actionable knowledge as well as practical implementation strategies for all those committed to sustainable development.
