Featuring real-world cases from across the globe, the webinar will showcase practical approaches to managing food waste as a strategy to strengthen food security, circular economies, and climate resilience.
The ICLEI CityFood Interest Group on Transforming Food Markets, in partnership with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), will host its third webinar: Assessing and Managing Food Waste in Urban Markets. Open to all city practitioners working with food systems, as well as those interested in solutions to curb food waste and build resilient food systems, this session offers both insights and actionable tools.
Food markets are central to local economies, culture, and community life. Yet they face one of today’s most pressing challenges: Food waste. This session will provide valuable examples from cities worldwide, ranging from policy innovations and waste audits to cold storage facilities, awareness campaigns, and food bank partnerships, that can help scale impact on climate resilience, social equity, and food security.
The webinar will feature insights from ICLEI CityFood and GAIN, alongside an expert keynote from Scott Drimie, political economist with over two decades of research, facilitation, and teaching expertise in African food systems and security.
The webinar will be held in two time slots to accommodate participants worldwide:
- Session I: 10:00–11:30 CEST, with presentations from Lusaka, Zambia; the Science City of Muñoz, Philippines, and Turin, Italy (held in English). Register now.
- Session II: 16:00–17:30 CEST, with presentations from Lilongwe, Malawi; Osasco, Brazil, and Cleveland; USA (held in English, Portuguese and Spanish). Register now.
These online events are presented as part of GIZ’s webinar series, contributing to UN-Habitat’s Urban October campaign, a global initiative promoting better urban futures, commemorating World Habitat Day (1 October) and World Cities Day (31 October).
