Join ICLEI Cities Biodiversity Center for this webinar to explore the crucial role of local and subnational governments in driving the integration of biodiversity conservation in land use and spatial planning, specifically focusing on SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities); and its linkage to Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) Target 12, which aims to ensure biodiversity-inclusive urban development.
As we approach the critical five-year window leading up to the 2030 deadline for achieving both the SDGs and the KMGBF targets, this session will emphasize the urgent need for accelerated, collective action at all levels of governance.
We will explore how cities and subnational governments are uniquely positioned to not only restore, protect and conserve biodiversity, but also catalyze broader societal transformations through inclusive and sustainable urban development. The session will highlight the importance of aligning development policies with biodiversity goals. In addition, the webinar will emphasize the importance of a whole-of-government approach, as well as the need for synergy and convergence among UN Conventions and processes.
