ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability (known as ICLEI) is a global network working with more than 2500 local and regional governments committed to sustainable urban development. Active in 125+ countries, we influence sustainability policy and drive local action for zero emission, nature-based, equitable, resilient and circular development. Our Members and team of experts work together through peer exchange, partnerships and capacity building to create systemic change for urban sustainability.

Belém, Brazil
Belém, the capital of the state of Pará, is its most populous city, with 1.39 million inhabitants. An ICLEI Member since 2022, the city is working with ICLEI to develop and promote public policies and actions for low-carbon development, climate adaptation and resilience, urban biodiversity, and the inclusion of vulnerable populations.
As the host city of UNFCCC COP30 (10–22 November), Belém emerged as a leader, advocating for cities in the Amazon region as vital participants in safeguarding the future of the Amazon forest.
