Bologna is the capital of the Emilia-Romagna Region and the seventh largest city in Italy. Not only has Bologna made its mark as a historic, cultural, economic and political center, it also has a longstanding political commitment to sustainability. In 2008 the City was nationally recognized for its 2007 Energy Plan, a multi-strategy city master plan for efficiencies and savings across numerous sectors and structures. Additionally, the City is a forerunner in sustainable urban transport, in 2011 Bologna won the European Mobility Week Award.
