What we are doing

The further enhancement and development of the GPC responds to the needs of local governments in strengthen their GHG emissions reports in line with international recommendations and demands of more transparent and robust data sets. This will allow local governments to emphasize their efforts for mitigate emissions in specific sectors; sub sectors; gases and activities. Currently all sizes of local governments (including cities, states, metropolitan regions and commonwealths) are using the GPC which adapts to their particular needs but allows them to feed upper levels of governance if needed as it can be integrated into the IPCC narrative.

What we are achieving

ICLEI participated in the development of the current version of the GPC as part of a multi-institutional cooperation along with The World Bank; UN Habitat; WRI and C40 and promoted the use and application of this protocol through its programs and related projects. Currently ICLEI participates in the further iteration of the GPC along with C40 and WRI which will allow complete integration with the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy - Common Reporting Framework. This will allow vertical (Multi-level) and horizontal integration of data for reporting entities reducing the effort to report in several standards of frameworks.
