Mobilizing and empowering subnational governments in Southeast Asia for sustainable energy transition
About
The project aims to empower these governments and their communities to advance renewable energy and improve energy efficiency within their territories. By increasing their ambition and capacity, the project seeks to accelerate the adoption of sustainable energy practices. This will be achieved by expanding local governments’ capabilities, promoting knowledge sharing, and facilitating collaboration across different levels of government.
Aims
- Awareness-raising and knowledge exchange: Increase awareness among local governments about the benefits and potential of renewable energy, while providing opportunities for knowledge sharing.
- Capacity building: Equip three deep-dive subnational governments with tailored knowledge and tools to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and enhance energy efficiency.
- Policy advocacy: Strengthen collaboration between different levels of government by advocating for supportive national policies through dialogues and policy briefs.
- Positioning: Increase the visibility of selected cities on regional and global platforms, providing opportunities for them to connect with and learn from peer cities.
Activities
- Outreach and engagement: Raise awareness about the potential of renewable energy within communities and local governments.
- Capacity building: Lead targeted trainings for cities in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand
- Multilevel governance: Conduct dialogues and providing policy support in strengthening collaboration
