Energy consumption in urban areas represents one of the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions, which contributes significantly to climate change. Many cities face challenges related to inefficient energy use, lack of comprehensive strategies to reduce consumption, and dependence on non-renewable energy sources.
ICLEI MECS identified this problem in various cities in Mexico, where energy consumption in public buildings, urban lighting, and municipal infrastructure presents significant opportunities for optimization. The need to develop energy efficiency strategies is essential to reduce operating costs, decrease emissions, and contribute to the transition towards a more sustainable and resilient urban model.

What we achieved
ICLEI MECS organized a Webinar on Energy Efficiency, given by Ramón Delgado, aimed at municipal representatives, urban infrastructure technicians and decision makers from various cities in Mexico. During the training, good practices, emerging technologies and successful case studies implemented in similar cities were presented.
The webinar included interactive dynamics such as real-time surveys and question and answer sessions, which encouraged collaborative learning and the adaptation of strategies to local contexts. In addition, practical tools were shared to evaluate municipal energy consumption and design energy efficiency projects. As a result, local capacities were strengthened to implement solutions that optimize the use of energy resources and reduce carbon emissions, generating economic savings for the participating cities.
