What we did
The International Energy Agency (IEA) recognizes artificial intelligence (AI) as a key solution for achieving carbon neutrality, particularly in areas such as improving energy efficiency, expanding renewable energy, and optimizing power grids for better energy management. Local governments in Korea, which must achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, are increasingly interested in adopting AI solutions to more efficiently implement carbon-neutral policies. This workshop allows local governments to learn from the experiences of cities and explore collaboration mechanisms to develop innovative technologies and solutions for carbon neutrality. Participants gain insights into AI solutions from EU cities such as Helsinki and Stockholm, and have the opportunity to discuss how these cases can be applied to Korean local governments through in-depth discussions and Q&A sessions.

What we achieved
'ICLEI Workshop - AI for Cities' aims to raise awareness of AI solutions for carbon neutrality to member cities and relevant stakeholders as introducing the 'AI4Cities' project, a three-year EU-funded initiative. This project, in which ICLEI Europe participated as an expert partner, is a pioneering initiative to introduce AI solutions for reducing carbon emissions in the mobility and energy sectors of EU cities. Moreover, ICLEI Korea facilitates networking between Korean cities and related institutions with EU cities and ICLEI Europe.
