What we are doing
The Conference on Biological Diversity has acknowledged that traditional knowledge related to medicinal plants, agricultural practices and animal rearing has a crucial impact on sustainable development, community progress and overall well-being. With these impacts in mind, this project addresses the requirements put forward by India's Biological Diversity Act of 2002, which mandates a local Biodiversity Management Committee to develop and maintain a database containing comprehensive information on availability and knowledge of local biological resources, their medicinal or any other use. The database will serve as a very useful tool in the management and sustainable use of bioresources especially in the context of biopiracy. The database also can be a very useful tool for teaching environmental studies at many educational levels.
