What we did
Urban flooding represents one of the main threats in cities around the world, causing significant damage to infrastructure, housing, and affecting people's quality of life. In Mexico, and many other urban regions, the effects of climate change, such as more intense rainfall, and urban sprawl exacerbate this problem. Lack of adequate planning, inadequate drainage systems, and a limited response by authorities contribute to increasing risks, particularly affecting vulnerable communities and costing millions in damages each year.

How we tracked
Attendance and participation
Total number of participants (expected vs. actual).
Diversity of participants (civil protection officials, engineers, urban planners, etc.).
Level of active participation during practical exercises (measured through surveys or interactive dynamics).

What we achieved
ICLEI MECS organized a two-hour practical workshop on Urban Flood Management, specifically designed to develop the technical and operational capacities of civil protection officials, hydraulic engineers, urban planners and other key professionals. During the workshop, an interactive methodology was implemented that included technical presentations, real case studies and a collaborative practical exercise where participants analyzed a hypothetical flood scenario.
This activity allowed attendees to identify the main vulnerabilities of their cities, develop preventive strategies based on natural and technological solutions, and coordinate effective emergency response actions. As a result, the workshop strengthened the institutional capacity of participants, promoting more efficient management of flood risks, reducing community vulnerability, and improving preparedness for extreme events.
